In this video, we will discuss lower back pain. Lower back pain is a multifactorial puzzle that may or may not be affected by your feet. Recent research has shown that excessive foot pronation can be a contributing factor in people with lower back pain.
If the pain is focused to one side, this may indicate a difference in leg lengths. Conservative pedorthic treatment of central lower back pain is to control poor biomechanics at the foot via custom foot orthotics and proper footwear. Reducing pronation and the accompanying internal rotations through the leg is thought to reduce strain through the hips and the lower back.
Custom orthotics also incorporate shock absorption, which may decrease symptoms of low back pain. Always check with your primary care physician to address all pieces of the lower back pain puzzle.
